What's Actually Hiding Inside a PDF's Metadata

Every PDF carries a small set of details you don't see on the page itself - title, author, subject, keywords, and a record of which software created it. This information travels with the file wherever it goes, and it's easy to forget it's there until it says something you didn't intend to share, like an old author name or an internal project code.

Why It's Worth Cleaning Up Before You Share a File

Two separate things are affected by this data: how the file is found, and what it reveals. A clear, accurate title and a few relevant keywords can help a document surface properly when someone searches for it. On the flip side, if you're sending a file outside your organization, stripping old metadata prevents it from carrying details about who created it or what internal system it came from.

Using the Editor

The whole process happens locally, right in this page:

  • Step 1 - Add your file: Drag a PDF into the drop zone, or click it to browse your device.
  • Step 2 - Edit the fields: Update the title, author, or subject, or add a custom XMP value if you need one.
  • Step 3 - Save or wipe: Either write your new values into the file, or strip all existing metadata in one click.
  • Step 4 - Download: Save the updated file directly, or grab a batch of processed files together as a zip.
